Demand here is not one beach season. It is a year-round mix of city culture in Santa Barbara, a quiet residential base in Montecito, an unhurried beach week in Carpinteria, harbor and island departures in Ventura, and wide family beaches plus protected harbor water in Oxnard. Weather, boat schedules and each home’s outdoor exposure shift the work from month to month more than they shift the guest.
Demand drivers
Visit Santa Barbara places the Funk Zone between downtown and the waterfront and describes a walkable cluster of tasting rooms, cafes, galleries, shops, murals and food. A home near it can sell parking the car once. A home twenty minutes away cannot, and should not try.
Visit Oxnard describes expansive open-coast beaches plus smaller sandy beaches inside Channel Islands Harbor. Open surf and protected harbor water attract different groups, and families often choose specifically for the calmer one. Say which you have.
Ventura Harbor is the mainland gateway to Channel Islands National Park. The Park Service says visits require boat transportation planned in advance and often take a full day or more. That drives early starts, gear questions and a need for a mainland backup plan.
Old Spanish Days Fiesta is a signature Santa Barbara event with fixed August dates published by the visitor authority. Event weeks belong on the calendar months ahead, alongside owner dates, not discovered in July.

Booking window
Lead time behaves differently for a Fiesta week, an island-trip weekend and a quiet February stay. Rather than quoting an average that would not describe your home, ask your manager these and expect specific answers for your address.
Stay mix
Every jurisdiction here defines a short-term rental at 30 days or less, and each one treats it differently. Carpinteria licenses them, Ventura permits them by zone, Oxnard permits them with neighbourhood caps and a 100-day annual limit, and the City of Santa Barbara says they are not permitted in most areas. The coastal zone adds Coastal Act considerations on top.
Open the regulation watchBecause the 30-day line is the definition everywhere in this market, a longer stay is a genuinely different question with different rules, different guests and a different operating rhythm. It is not a workaround, and structuring a short stay to look like a long one is the thing cities enforce against. Ask about it directly for your address.

No. Official visitor sources describe activity across the year: Visit Oxnard describes beachgoing in summer, spring and fall plus harbor paddling; Visit Ventura sets out harbor cruises, whale watching and island access; Visit Santa Barbara runs a dated August Fiesta week. The operating work changes more between seasons than the guest volume does.
Because a market-level average across five communities and two counties would not describe any individual home, and this site does not publish figures it cannot support for your address. Property-level numbers are handled in the Owner Portal.
It affects the ones near Ventura Harbor and Channel Islands Harbor. The National Park Service says island visits need boat transportation planned in advance and often take a full day or more, which drives early departures, gear staging and the need for a mainland alternative when weather intervenes.
Where a cap exists it changes which nights are worth taking. Oxnard's municipal code, checked 2026-09-20, limits a vacation rental to a maximum 100-day annual cap per calendar year and rounds partial days up. That makes minimum stays and owner dates a planning decision rather than a preference.
