The National Park Service calls October to May the busy season. Summer brings triple digits. A High Desert home is marketed, cared for and managed differently in each.

| Marketing | Sell the park: three entrances, more than 8,000 known climbs and some of the darkest skies in southern California. The NPS warns the park can be very crowded, so early starts sell. | Sell the night and the pool, honestly. Daytime heat is a serious safety risk, so listings point guests to sunrise, sunset and stars. |
| Maintenance | Heating checked before nights drop into the high 30s, and wind and dust cleaned off decks and screens. | Cooling and pool equipment checked before the first triple-digit week, with shade over outdoor seating. |

All year
The rules that do not change with the season.
- The County bans weddings, receptions, corporate retreats, filming, photo shoots and parties at short-term rentals.
- The permit and an evacuation map are posted inside, by the front door.
- In the County, outdoor lights go off by 11 p.m. and noise stays under 45 decibels in quiet hours.
- Pioneertown, a former live-in movie set founded in part by Roy Rogers and Gene Autry, is a reason to stay, not a venue.
